UN General Assembly praises King Fahd

The late Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd was praised today by UN General Assembly President Jean Ping as a man of great vision who inspired the people of Saudi Arabia for almost a quarter century. The King "led Saudi Arabia through a period of unparalleled progress and development, making enduring contributions in the field of international and regional diplomacy," Ping told the first General Assembly to convene in New York since the death of King Fahd on August 1. Individual countries and regional groups spoke out in memory of the late King, as did Saudi Ambassador to the UN Fawzi Shobokshi.

The General Assembly also held a moment of silence in honor of King Fahd.
