Desalination projects require $500 billion over 10 years, says minister

Minister of Water and Electricity Abdullah Al-Hussayen said that water desalination projects would require $500 billion within the next 10 years, the Arab News reported today. Al-Hussayen is leading Saudi Arabia’s delegation to the International Desalination Association (IDA) World Congress on Desalination and Water Reuse in Singapore. Saudi Arabia, one of the world's largest producers of desalinated water, is an active member of the IDA.

In related news, the ministers of water from the GCC states will hold their fourth meeting in Riyadh on Saturday.
