Saudi Arabia’s statement to the 60th U.N. General Assembly

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal, in Saudi Arabia’s statement to the 60th U.N. General Assembly in New York today, reiterated the Kingdom’s resolution calling for a task force to review the creation of an International Counter-terrorism Center, and underscored that such a center would reinforce, not replace, existing U.N. counter-terrorism efforts.

On the Arab-Israeli conflict, Prince Saud said that Saudi Arabia is following Israel’s withdrawal from Gaza very closely, and that the Kingdom anticipates the withdrawal from Gaza will be followed by serious steps towards withdrawal from all Arab territory occupied since 1967.

Prince Saud also called on Iraqis to put aside their differences and work together to preserve Iraq’s unity, independence and Arab and Islamic identity in a way that guarantees equality for all. In addition, he called on developed countries to allocate the agreed-upon percentage to development assistance, and stressed the need for U.N. reform so that the world body’s ability to create peace will be enhanced.
