The Ministry of Social Affairs has dramatically improved its care for the underprivileged sections of society especially the handicapped, seniors, and adolescents. A report prepared by the Ministry said the number of the vocational and social rehabilitation centers increased to 27 in 2003-2005 as compared to only two in 1984. In August 2005, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz also issued directives to increase the minimum allocations for social insurance from SR 16, 200 [$4,320] to SR 28,000 [$7,467] per family.
