Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz inaugurated in Abha today a symposium on electronic commerce organized by King Khalid University. In his address he commented that the Kingdom’s advance in communications is an indication of the government’s concern for development in all fields, while fully preserving the values and principles of Islam. E-commerce, he said, is a viable option for all companies and individuals, noting that its current volume exceeds SR 700 million [U.S. $ 187 million]. He went on to praise the privatization experience of Saudi communications which has resulted in the expansion of services in that field. KKU Director Dr. Abdullah Al-Rashid observed that the symposium contributes to the nation’s strategy of improving Saudi Arabia’s e-commerce, which last year ranked 45th in the world regarding technological and electronic readiness.
