The Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EPCCI), headquartered in Dammam, has set up a 20-member committee of businesswomen, to study problems affecting women in business. The committee will be representative in character and will interact with other relevant bodies, drawing up proposals and making recommendations. EPCCI President Abdulrahman Al-Rashid commented that this positive step is in conformity with Islamic tradition and culture, and reflects the support of both the government and the business sector for the contribution Saudi women can make in all spheres.

One committee member, Dr. Aisha Al-Mana, said in an interview today that the formation of the committee is “confirmation of women's role in the growth of society”. Another member, Dr. Amal Al-Taimi, called it "a progressive decision in the right direction", adding that the committee would operate as a link between the private sector and women investors as well as helping open up new business horizons to businesswomen.
