GOTEVOT to overhaul development of occupational skills

The General Organization for Technical Education and Vocational Training (GOTEVOT), in partnership with BAE Systems, is overhauling the development of occupational skills in support of the government's Saudization drive. BAE Systems will contribute SR 20 million [U.S. $ 5.34 million] to the project, which is already in its second phase. In the first phase, BAE Systems gave SR 11 million [$ 2.94 million], and has been offering administrative assistance and access to international resources. Now responsible for the vocational training of 64,000 students a year, GOTEVOT will be able to increase its capacity by another 10,400. The project targets some 125 national occupational skill standards, and plans to develop 200 training packages for colleges of technology, 400 for secondary technical institutes and 200 for vocational training centers. A national occupational licensing system is also planned.
