New gas fields discovered at Al-Shaybah

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali Al-Naimi has announced that last Tuesday reserves of natural gas were discovered in the Eastern Province’s Rub Al-Khali [Empty Quarter], estimated as averaging 20 million cubic feet and 650 barrels of condensates a day. The importance of the discovery, at a depth of 7,815 feet, is that it was made in a zone where non-associated gas had not previously been found. The reserves are located about 500 miles southeast of Riyadh, in the Al-Shaybah field, which is producing an average of 500,000 barrels per day of very light Arabian oil.
