Kingdom stresses link between development and human rights

Addressing the United Nations Commission for Human Rights in Geneva today, the Kingdom’s UN Representative Dr. Abdulwahab Abdulsalam Attar stressed the link between development and respect for human rights, pointing out that if development is not based on a respect for human rights, it is doomed to failure; and noting that human rights are elusive if the economic and social dimensions of development are neglected. He emphasized that Saudi Arabia believes in full practice of the right to development as a prerequisite for all rights, and called for the establishment of specific criteria on the right to development.
