Shortly before 9:00 p.m. [6:00 p.m. GMT] Wednesday night, terrorists detonated a vehicle loaded with explosives on a busy street near the Ministry of Interior in Riyadh, wounding five security officers assigned to guard detail as well as a number of bystanders.
Later, a vehicle full of explosives was heading towards the Special Emergency Forces headquarters in eastern Riyadh, but alert security officers prevented the vehicle from reaching its target. The terrorists subsequently detonated the vehicle more then 350 meter [380 yards] from the gate. The explosion resulted in slight injuries to 12 people inside the building as well as injuries to bystanders.
At about 10:00 p.m. [7:00 p.m. GMT], security forces killed seven terrorist suspects in a shootout in the northern part of the city of Riyadh. Explosive devices and supplies, weapons and ammunition, and documents were found at the scene. The occurrence is still under investigation and details will be given in a subsequent statement.
