New RVF cases in Jizan no cause for alarm

Minister of Agriculture Dr Fahd Balghunaim issued reassurances today that the five cases of Rift Valley Fever (RVF) detected in Jizan Province do not indicate an impending epidemic in the region. The cases, he said, were discovered during routine periodic examinations carried out by the Ministry, and although they indicate the existence of limited virus activity, a comprehensive plan for tackling such cases is already in place. He urged livestock breeders in Jizan Province to take all the required precautionary measures and cooperate with the concerned authorities in this respect.
