A government committee assigned to follow up relief aid to the displaced in the Sudanese region of Darfur held a meeting in Riyadh today under the chairmanship of Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sweilim, head of the Saudi Red Crescent Society, who praised what Saudi teams have achieved in the conflict-torn region. Medical equipment and ambulances have been flown in, and clinics established; and food is being distributed in coordination with Sudan's Red Crescent Society and the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).

Meanwhile, Saudi Red Crescent Society personnel continue to monitor the situation in Darfur, focusing now on the western province, where the humanitarian situation is being evaluated and an office opened prior to starting up relief operations there in coordination with the Sudanese Red Crescent Society.
