Saudi intellectuals hold conference in Riyadh

Governor of Riyadh Province Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz and Minister of Culture and Information Dr Fuad Al-Farsi opened in Riyadh yesterday a conference for Saudi intellectuals organized by the Ministry. Also attending is Governor of Asir Province Prince Khalid Al-Faisal. Assistant Minister of Culture and Information Prince Turki bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz, at a press conference in Riyadh yesterday after the inaugural session, affirmed that the three-day meeting aims at formulating a cultural strategy for Saudi society, and will focus on various cultural aspects such as theater, poetry, the arts, music, and folklore, with a special emphasis on childhood. He went on to comment on the role to be played by the media in implementing cultural policies.

Topics being covered in the conference include libraries and the publishing industry, cultural integration, technological aspects of information and culture, cultural activities and festivals, the history of the Arabian Peninsula, and a session on the cultural role of women.
