Makkah Governor approves fifty-year urban strategy for Jeddah

Governor of Makkah Province Prince Abdulmajeed bin Abdulaziz has approved an urban strategy for the area of Jeddah over the next 50 years, and a structural plan to be effected within the next five years. Mayor of Jeddah Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Mu-allimi presented the strategy on the basis of four main themes: the city’s future to reflect its past; the anticipated increase in its population until 1475 [2053]; the development of the urban area; and the various kinds of residences arising from urban expansion. He also touched on issues such as the need for basic sanitary drainage networks, the provision of water and electricity, the development of mass transit, and the prevention of environmental pollution.
