2003 Press Release

Statement by Saudi Ambassador, Prince Bandar
[Washington, DC] Commenting on today's incident in Riyadh when Saudi security forces foiled a terrorist plot, resulting in the deaths of two terrorist suspects and the seizure of a vehicle loaded with explosives, Ambassador to the United States Prince Bandar bin Sultan issued the following statement:

“The fact that these terrorists would try to kill innocent people on the first day of the Eid, a time of religious celebration, shows again that they have no moral principles or respect for Islamic values.  They are murderers, pure and simple.  Their aim is to take away our security and take over the state.  Instead of progress and reform, they want to turn Saudi Arabia into a Taliban society.  But they will not succeed.

"We commend our brave Saudi law enforcement and intelligence officers who were able to identify and stop these terrorists before they could strike.  With God’s help, they saved many lives today.

"Our security and counter-terrorism operations grow stronger everyday.  We are hunting down the terrorists and flushing them from their hiding places.  There is no safe place for Al-Qaeda in Saudi Arabia.  God willing, we will continue to find them and bring them to harsh justice.”
