Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz today chaired the regular weekly session of the Council of Ministers, and briefed the cabinet on contacts he and Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz had held with leaders and envoys of a number of brotherly and friendly countries, including Prime Minister of Pakistan Mir Dhafarallah Jamali. These talks covered international developments, particularly in the Middle East and most importantly Israel's daily destruction and killing of the Palestinian people. King Fahd declared that the world is passing through special circumstances dealing with which requires wisdom and prudence from the United Nations and from all countries. The Kingdom, he said, as it always has, is utilizing its good offices with brotherly and friendly countries and at all international arenas in order to achieve security and stability, the two goals cherished by all peoples. Only civil and comprehensive security, he added, will lead to a steady progress that yields positive cooperation and constructive integration.

Turning to domestic issues, the cabinet passed a number of resolutions, including authorization for the General President of Youth Welfare or his deputy to sign a draft cooperation agreement with the Republic of the Sudan in the area of youth and sports; authorization for the Minister of Commerce or his deputy to discuss the draft of a technical cooperation program with the Kingdom of Sweden covering the issues of genetically-modified food, market-flooding, compensatory arrangements, preventive protection, and electronic commerce; and authorization for the Minister of Water or his deputy to discuss a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the area of water resources with the Ministry of Economics, Communications and Technology in the German state of Bavaria.
