Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz today inaugurated the Sixth Gulf Water Conference being held in Riyadh, together with the Second Symposium on Conserving Water, under the title 'Water for Sustainable Development in the Countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC)'. In a speech delivered on behalf of Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, Prince Sultan described how the Kingdom has utilized resources for the welfare of its citizens, digging wells, constructing dams, and building desalination stations.

Minister of Water Dr. Ghazi Al-Qusaibi commented in his speech that if global water consumption remains at its current level, then within a quarter of a century ninety percent of all available fresh water on the planet will be exhausted, and two-thirds of the world's population will suffer water poverty.
