Human rights committee will be set up, says Prince Saud

In his briefing today, Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal announced that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz has approved the formation of an independent human rights committee. The request for such a committee came from a non-government body, and the committee is in process of being formed, with the mandate to implement government decisions related to human rights and to redraft the relevant laws to be consistent with the Basic Law of Governance. Prince Saud added that the concept of the committee arose from the citizens, and not in response to foreign pressure. He noted that the measure aims at reforming the internal situation.
