Kingdom's accession to WTO getting closer

Saudi Arabia has fulfilled most of the first phase for accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO), which has been ongoing since 1993. The Kingdom has completed bilateral negotiations with 17 WTO members, and there is strong support for its accession to the organization. "What remains are the basic negotiations for bilateral agreements with the United States and the European Union," says Dr. Fahd Saad Al-Dossary, advisor for economic and WTO affairs at the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry, explaining that the lengthy period of time involved is due to the fact that membership requires amendment of rules and measures pertaining to trade.
