Women to take up business issues with Shura Council

Thirty businesswomen have been invited by the Consultative Council (Majlis Al-Shura) to present to one of its meetings this month a report on difficulties they are experiencing and solutions to facilitate their investment activities. A recent study reveals that women hold 20 percent of corporate shares, and own 15 percent of private companies as well as 10 percent of the real estate sector. Women have a 34 percent stake in private businesses in Riyadh and 25.6 percent in Jeddah; there are an estimated 5,000 businesswomen in Riyadh and 4,000 in Jeddah. Businesses run by Saudi women include food importation, contracting, retail electrical and electronic equipment, wedding halls, restaurants, and flower shops.
