Foreign ministry comments on U.S. custody case in Jeddah

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a statement concerning recent reports that two American women had taken refuge, with their children, in the U.S. consulate in Jeddah. The statement said investigation is under way into the circumstances of the issue, commenting that since the women are American nationals, it is natural that they approach the mission of their country. The children, however, are of Saudi nationality, and the Saudi government has the duty to take all necessary measures to protect the rights of its citizens. The statement concluded by pointing out that both governments have a responsibility to take into consideration the human aspects and the unity of the family in tackling such issues.
