Mosque Council urges confrontation of deviant thinking

At its annual conference in Makkah, the World Supreme Council for Mosques, an affiliate of the Muslim World League, today issued an appeal to imams (leaders of prayers) and khateebs (preachers) of all mosques to confront the deviant thinking of certain extremist groups. Some Muslims, the statement said, are clearly ignorant about Islam, and this has led to the emergence of the deviant extremist groups. Mosques, the appeal urged, need to address these deviations, and imams and khateebs need to enlighten people about the correct methods of propagating virtue and preventing vice.
