Minister reports on GCC water and electricity cooperation meeting

Minister of Water and Electricity Dr. Ghazi Al-Qusaibi, in a press statement at the meeting in Doha, Qatar yesterday of the Committee for Water and Electricity Cooperation of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), announced that the GCC Secretariat General has signed a contract with a French consultancy company to carry out a feasibility study; and that a special committee has been approved to monitor this study while transforming the Al-Jubail Center for Desalination Research into a regional entity. Dr. Al-Qusaibi added that the working program for integrated administration and sustainable development of water had also been approved, and that the meeting had dealt with training and the exchange of expertise among member states. All of the recommendations of the Committee on Water Usage Rationalization, he said, had been endorsed, as were recommendations from a number of technical committees affiliated to the Electricity Cooperation Committee, adding that the meeting was briefed on the latest development of the Gulf Grid.
