Saudi Telecom to provide 7 million mobile phone lines

President of Saudi Telecom Company (STC) Khaled Al-Milhem has confirmed that by the end of this month there will be five million mobile phone lines, and that this number will rise to seven million next year, commenting that when STC was established in 1998, there were only 36,000. The number of mobile phones in the Kingdom, he said, jumped dramatically following a cut in subscription fees, and a reduction in the per-minute call tariff from SR 1.6 [$ 0.43] to SR 1.2 [$ 0.32], a rate that will be further cut to SR 0.5 [$ 0.13] in March, 2003.
