Minister of Education Dr. Muhammad Al-Rasheed headed the Saudi delegation to the 16th session of the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ALESCO), which concluded yesterday. A number of resolutions were taken, notably ALESCO's proposed operations from 2003 to 2010, and the budget of the Arab Fund for Illiteracy Eradication and Adult Education for 2003 and 2004.

The final communiqué reiterated solidarity with the Palestinian people, condemned the barbaric crimes committed by the Israeli forces in the occupied Palestine, and called for extending all possible support to the Palestinian people, the return of the Palestinian refugees to their homeland, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds [East Jerusalem] as its capital. ALESCO resolves to work with UNESCO and ISESCO to expose Israel's racist practices, and against Israeli attempts to change the characteristics of the Arab and Islamic heritage in Jerusalem.
