Prince Sultan receives call from U.S. Defense Secretary

Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector-General Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz received a telephone call yesterday from U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld. During the conversation, Secretary Rumsfeld stated his concern and that of the U.S. Department of Defense at the contents of the briefing on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia prepared by Laurent Murawiec, a RAND Corporation analyst, and published on Tuesday by the Washington Post newspaper. Rumsfeld stressed that the writer of the report had expressed his personal views and not those of the Defense Department.

Meanwhile, RAND Corporation announced today that the briefing prepared by Mr. Murawiec was not a RAND research product and the views expressed only represent the views of the author and "should not be interpreted as representing those of RAND."
