Prince Saud received in Paris by French President

Minister of Foreign Affairs Prince Saud Al-Faisal was received in Paris today by French President Jacques Chirac, with whom he discussed the situation in the Middle East and peace efforts in the region, notably the peace initiative submitted by Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz and later adopted by the Arab Summit in Beirut. President Chirac expressed his concern over Israel's dissociation from the Oslo agreements and its rejection of the European peace plan, and stressed the urgent need for resumption of the peace process as the only way to ensure peace and security for the peoples in the region. Prince Saud told reporters that the Kingdom's stance and that of the Republic of France are very close. He went on to observe that resolving the Iraqi crisis can only be done through the United Nations.
