Kingdom's UN envoy comments on dialogue of civilizations

Saudi Arabia's Permanent Representative at the United Nations in New York Fawzi Shobokshi issued a statement yesterday stressing the need for dialogue among civilizations and interaction among cultures, and pointed out that Saudi Arabia has set up a large number of cultural centers and institutes worldwide that serve as bridges between Islamic and other cultures in order to deepen understanding. He commented that although the catastrophe of September 11 was condemned by all peace-loving people, and notably by Arab and Muslim countries, it is regrettable that Muslims and Arabs have been linked to terrorism, overlooking the fact that terrorism is a global phenomenon not limited to any particular ethnic group, religion, civilization or nation. The international community, he said, should work together to make the world free from wars, disputes, extremism, terrorism, ignorance, poverty and disease, adding that justice, equality and cooperation must prevail for a better future and greater prosperity for the coming generations.
