Saudi radio and TV coverage expanded

The Ministry of Information has announced expansion of radio and television coverage, with Channel One TV, Holy Qur'an Radio, and public radio broadcasting reaching both North and South America by satellite. Digital broadcasting for the Americas began on April 1, 2001, via Telstar-5. Coverage for South America is also available through Intelsat, and Channel One TV is already telecasting to the Americas through Arabsat-2. Saudi broadcasts and telecasts are therefore now available almost everywhere in the world, with the exception of central and southern Africa, which will soon be covered. Transmissions are 24 hours, and include the five prayers transmitted live directly from the Grand Mosque in Makkah.
