'Arab News' confirms open expatriate travel in Kingdom

The English-language daily 'Arab News' reported today that the passport office has confirmed that new regulations came into effect last week, under which expatriates can travel anywhere within the Kingdom with a valid iqama [identity card] only. The old system required an expatriate to carry a travel letter from his employer. Moreover, in proposed changes in sponsorship rules, expatriates will be allowed to keep their passports instead of handing them over to their sponsors.
