SABIC signs contract to supply MTBE to Egypt

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) announced today the signing of a contract with the Arab Republic of Egypt to export 45,000 tons of methyl tertiary-butyl ether (MTBE) for the eighth consecutive year. MTBE, an anti-pollutant chemical product, is added to gasoline to increase octane; this reduces the rate of harmful emissions from vehicle exhausts. Saudi Arabia is the second largest producer of MTBE after the United States, with an annual production capacity of about three million tons.
