Kingdom supports renewal of Arab sanctions on Israel

At a meeting in Damascus today of the Central Office for the Boycott of Israel, an offshoot of the organization of the League of Arab States, the Kingdom's representative Fa'iq bin Othman called on all Arab countries to commit to the Arab League's sanctions against Israel, and urged them to lend every support to the Palestinian people. The meeting was convened to discuss the status of the sanctions banning dealings with Israel or with third-country companies trading with Israel, that was unofficially set aside nearly ten years ago with the progress of the Middle East peace talks, and how to revive the boycott following the collapse of these talks. Such a boycott, it was pointed out, is a form of peaceful resistance that does not contradict international law, since it is based on self-protection and freedom to choose economic partners.
