Secretary-General of the Supreme Commission for Tourism (SCT) Prince Sultan bin Salman yesterday inaugurated a meeting on the development of domestic tourism and effective partnership for its growth, organized by SCT in collaboration with the Institute of Public Administration. He explained that tourism is not only an income generator, but provides jobs and investment opportunities and gives impetus to local industries. In his speech, Governor of the Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) Prince Abdullah bin Faisal bin Turki stressed that investment in the Kingdom is progressing strongly, and that foreign investors are interested in participating. Tourism, he said, constitutes one of the main aspects of investment.

Meanwhile, it was announced today that the General Secretariat of the Council of Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the Gulf Cooperation Council is planning to issue a handbook on tourism in the Arabian Gulf some time in the middle of 2001. The handbook will be available, in English and Arabic, in both printed format and electronically as a CD and as a web site.
