Winners of GCC environment prize announced

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Jameel Al-Hujeilan has announced the winners of the 1421 prize for activities beneficial to the environment. Saudi winners include, for research, the industrial research complex of the Saudi Arabian Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC); for education, the Institute of Natural Resources at the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST); for environmental awareness, the Al-Safi Food Company; and for industrial standards, the Saudi National Company for Lead Smelting. The prize for environment personality of the year went to Secretary-General of the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development (NCWCD) Dr. Abdulaziz Hamid Abu-Zinadah. A ceremony honoring the winners will be held in Oman on April 17, 2001 at the seventh meeting of GCC environment ministers.
