King Fahd's speech to new Supreme Council for Petroleum and Minerals
Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz, as Prime Minister and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Petroleum and Minerals, today presided over the council's first meeting, and delivered the following speech.

In the name of God, Most Gracious and Most Merciful.
Thanks be to God Almighty, and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and all his family and companions.
Dear brothers, present here: Dear brothers, the citizens:
We thank God greatly for the bounty of Islam, which he has given us, a bounty of a religion that upraises us and that cannot be surpassed.
Dear esteemed brothers:
This country has been established on a firm basis, that of the righteous creed, the true treasure for achievement of our hopes and ambitions. We say this because we trust in God, and in every citizen carrying out his role with honesty and doing it very well. God has given us wealth, including petroleum, gas and minerals, and blessed us by placing that wealth as a means for achieving our national goals and implementing our economic and social developmental plans in a national unity whose pillars are security and stability.

Your country, dear brother citizens, takes its will from you, next after God. You belong to this country and you are the protectors of an interest that targets our faith and our nation. Therefore, the wealth of petroleum, gas and minerals has been a means in our hands as is other wealth, to embody our dreams in reality in all that has been achieved and will be achieved, God willing.
To continue giving and to achieve the well being of the citizens, it was necessary to affirm the state's policy in this field. Thus, the Supreme Council for Petroleum and Mineral Affairs was established, and the council placed in charge of deciding all petroleum and mineral affairs; of setting and approving policies and strategies related to this field; and of following up and approving the general policies of mining in view of the circumstances and the interests of the nation.
We pray to God to make it a blessed step toward realizing that to which we all aspire in terms of protecting the interests of the country: greater progress and prosperity, with this wealth and other wealth that God has given this country a source for the common good and rightness.
I pray to God to guide us to what is good and right, and may peace be upon you.
