Non-oil exports continue to grow

The Ministry of Commerce has announced that the revenue from non-oil exports in the second quarter of the year 2000 exceeded U.S. $ 2 billion. Topping the list of exports to some 90 countries were petrochemicals, plastics, metal goods, construction materials, and electrical appliances. Over the same period the ministry issued 37,000 certificates of origin for non-oil products. The sustained growth rate of non-oil exports reflects the success of the government's economic reforms and trade policies, said Ismail Abu Dawood, Chairman of the Council of Saudi Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
