Update on Rift Valley Fever situation

The Ministry of Health's daily report shows 13 new cases of Rift Valley Fever over the period 7 p.m. Wednesday to 7 p.m. Thursday. This brings the total to 189, with 42 patients discharged from the hospital

after recovery, and 39 fatalities. Meanwhile, Minister of Agriculture and Water Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Muammar today continued his inspection tour in Jizan Province, including the airstrips of the pesticide-spraying planes. Seven helicopters are due to arrive at Jizan airport today, and more planes will come omorrow, raising to 20 the number of the fleet taking part in the campaign against the anopheles mosquito, one of the major factors in the spread of the disease. There are now around 100 teams of spray technicians and veterinary experts, who will launch a new phase of the campaign tomorrow.
