The Consultative Council (Majlis Al-Shura) yesterday discussed the recent outbreak of Rift Valley Fever

(RVF) in Jizan Province, praising the visit to the area by Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the

National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, to comfort the people there and assure them of the

support and care of the Kingdom's leadership. The Council also praised the efforts of the various ministries in limiting the spread of the disease and working for its eventual eradication.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health reported that over the period 7 p.m. Monday to 7 p.m. Tuesday there

were nine new cases of RVF.  One of these was in Asir and one in Riyadh, but both were in persons who

had traveled from Jizan. The total number of cases is now 238, with 76 patients fully recovered. The death

toll remains at 52.
