GCC interior ministers conclude 19th session in Riyadh

Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard Crown Prince Abdullah bin Abdulaziz today received the interior ministers of the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) who have just concluded their 19th session. In his address to the closing session, the conference's chairman Interior Minister Prince Nayef bin Abdulaziz expressed confidence that it would yield good results, especially concerning security and ease of movement for GCC citizens.

The communiqué issued by the session praised the measures taken so far to facilitate movement of GCC citizens among member states, including electronically-readable passports and acceptance of personal identification cards for travel purposes.  The interior ministers reviewed the outcome of the various committees that have held a number of meetings this year, on topics such as coordination of training, approval of regulations, and standardized security measures for freight transport. The communiqué stressed the need to proceed with matters such as unified penalties, and measures to preserve the environment from pollution; and to exchange information for the fight against organized crime, drug trafficking, and money laundering.
