PTT ministers from GCC states meet in Riyadh

Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, received today the ministers of postal and telecommunications services in the member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), who had met earlier at the 11th session of the GCC Ministerial PTT Committee. The session dealt with issues concerning postal and telecommunications services in the GCC states such as lowering rates, linking networks, and improving technology.  Also reviewed were the benefits of the new cellular service through satellites, and expanded use of axial cables to link the GCC states, including their use in television transmissions.  In the context of the Supreme GCC Council's recommendations on national manpower, the committee decided to extend priority to GCC citizens to work in member states' PTT departments, noting that the trend is for greater participation by the private sector.
