Report on situation of Saudi industry

The Madinah Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports that the number of factories in the Kingdom is now 3,100 with a total capital of U.S. $ 69 billion and accommodating 300,000 workers, up from only 600 plants in 1975, employing 3,000. The contribution of the industrial sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has increased from 4.5 percent in 1975 to almost 12 percent today. Madinah Province alone has 300 factories, with investments valued at U.S. $ 10 billion and 40,000 workers. These factories include the oil and petrochemical complexes in Yanbu.
