Crown Prince Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, announced yesterday that the name of the Saudi society for gifted students has been changed to "Foundation of King Abdul Aziz and his Followers for the Welfare of the Gifted". This announcement came in a speech delivered by the Crown Prince after patronizing the ceremony launching the foundation under his chairmanship. Its Board of Trustees, in addition to Crown Prince Abdullah as President, includes Education Minister Mohammad Ibn Ahmed Al-Rasheed as Vice-President, and Minister of Industry and Electricity Hashim Ibn Abdullah Yamani and President of King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) Saleh Ibn Abdulrahman Al-Athel as members, in addition to other officials and a number of businessmen.
Meanwhile, in a press statement yesterday Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Musaed Ibn Muhammad Al-Sinani declared that the noble patronage of the foundation reflects the Saudi leadership's concern for science and scientists, saying: "The search for talented Saudi students and the extension of care and attention to them as well as provision of facilities for their encouragement and advancement in all branches of the sciences, remains a civilized indicator of any country's progress. Moreover, continuous investment in Saudi cadres is the real strength and wealth of the nation."
