Prince Sultan chairs environment committee

Prince Sultan Ibn Abdul Aziz, Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation

and Inspector-General, today chaired the eighth meeting of the ministerial committee on

environment.   A number of resolutions were adopted, including approval of the Kyoto protocol

on weather, amendment to Article 3/1 of the Basle Agreement concerning cross-border transfer

of hazardous wastes, and encouragement of bilateral cooperation in the field of environment

awareness.   The ministerial committee also reviewed preparations for laying down rules to get

rid of medical waste and decided to form a committee comprised of delegates from the

Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, the Ministry of Finance and

National Economy, and the Meteorological and Environmental Protection Agency (MEPA) to

prepare a well-defined working program for this.
