The King Abdulaziz Center for Science and Technology (KACST) and the Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) have fixed the subscription rate for Internet services at 7.5 halalas (U.S. $ 0.02) per minute. This rate will be officially announced on September 7, the date scheduled for a meeting with representatives from the 72 companies, including STC itself, who have qualified as Internet service providers. Meanwhile, KACST has announced the opening in November on the Jeddah-Makkah highway of a new lunar observatory whose work will include sightings of the new moon and astronomical calculations for the Muslim calendar.
