Saudi Arabia observes World Food Day

Speaking today on the occasion of World Food Day, which this year has the title "Investment in Food Security", Minister of Agriculture and Water Dr. Abdullah Ibn Abdul Aziz Ibn Muammar announced that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved its target of food security in record time, a feat that has been reflected by the recent presentation by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of its top honor to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz in recognition of the Kingdom's agricultural development and of its contribution to the eradication of famine and poverty worldwide. Last month the ministry reported that Kingdom now has 2.7 million hectares of cultivated land, and has reached self-sufficiency in a number of agricultural products.
