Ramadan message from King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah

On the occasion of the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard, today issued the following speech:

“Brother citizens:
The Holy Month of Ramadan has arrived, which Almighty God has said is the month when there was sent down the Qur’an to guide mankind and to give clear signs for judging what is right and what is wrong, and during which everyone should fast.   The Prophet Muhammad declared that Ramadan is a blessed month and that fasting during it is a compulsory act, saying: ‘The doors of Paradise are open and the doors of Hell are closed during the Holy Month of Ramadan;  moreover, in this month there is one night that is better than a thousand months.’
As we are receiving and welcoming this Holy Month, we would like to greet all citizens, residents, visitors and all Muslims throughout the world, praying to Almighty God to help us all fast its days and pray its nights.   We also pray that all martyrs and all deceased be forgiven, whether from among our citizens or from the Muslim Nation.   In this blessed month we should look at ourselves and do our best to behave in the proper and  straight way to enable our fasting and our prayers to be accepted;  in so doing, prosperity, security and stability will be bestowed upon us.  Even though the Saudi society, praise be to Almighty God, is adhering in all aspects of life to the teachings of Islam, and acting as one single family, nevertheless we should continue in pious deeds in line with the verse of the Holy Qur’an that says:   ‘Ye who believe, bow down, prostrate yourselves, and adore your Lord, and do good, that ye may prosper.’
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, its government and its people, honored to serve the Two Holy Mosques and the pilgrims to them, and ever mindful of enabling the guests of God perform their rituals in line with the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the Sunna, will spare no effort in the service of Islam and Muslims throughout the world.
We pray to Almighty God that all our dreams and noble goals be realized and that we are all enabled to fast the days and pray the nights of this generous and blessed month, and that our nation and its leadership be successful in all that is good in this life and in the hereafter.”
