Council of Ministers Meeting

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Ibn Abdul Aziz today presided over the regular weekly meeting of the Council of Ministers and reviewed the principles and tenets of the foreign policy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which basically emanate from the clear instructions of God regarding relations with other peoples, combining respect for the sovereignty, independence and unity of territory of other countries and non-interference in their domestic affairs, with practicing good neighborliness, refraining from the use of force or the threat to use it, and resolving disputes through peaceful means.

Information Minister Dr. Fouad Al-Farsi reported that King Fahd referred to the Kingdom's foreign policy as concentrating on four aspects.   Firstly, the regional dimension is based on the establishment in 1981 of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) as a real response to a fundamental demand.  Secondly, there is the Arab dimension, vital in formulating the relations of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia with its sister Arab countries in light of the Charter of the League of Arab States, and the assertion of the Kingdom's continued efforts to build bridges of understanding, solidarity and cooperation.   Thirdly, Islamic solidarity has been the strength and pride of the Muslim world ever since the first Islamic conference which was held in Makkah in 1926 under the auspices of King Abdul Aziz.  Fourthly, the Kingdom cooperates closely with the international community based on mutual and full respect, equality, exchange of legitimate benefits, and confrontation of challenges through coordination and cooperation in a way that realizes security, peace and stability, and the creation of a world free of weapons of mass destruction.

The cabinet then issued a number of resolutions, including authentication of the audits of the National Commission for Wildlife Conservation and Development for the 1993 fiscal year, and authorization for the Minister of Foreign Affairs or his delegate to sign a memo of understanding concerning bilateral consultations between the foreign ministry of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and that of the Federal Republic of Russia.
