Saudi Arabia sends relief aid to displaced Chechens

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz has extended assistance  to displaced persons in Chechnya, Angosha and Daghistan, in the form of 300 metric tons of food materials, including flour, sugar, oil, rice and milk powder.  The first planeload of this relief aid has arrived in Chechnya and is being distributed.  The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR), stating that these materials had been dispatched within the framework of King Fahd’s program to help the Chechen people, is appealing to members of the international community to follow the Saudi example and provide the UNHCR with relief aid for urgent delivery to Chechen refugees.  In the meantime, the Chairman of the UNHCR office in Riyadh, urging both organizations and individuals to extend donations for the displaced Chechens, has given its telephone number, (966-1) 448-0049, and its fax number, (966-1) 482-8737.
