Kingdom prepares for International Food Day

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will join the rest of the world in celebrating International Food Day tomorrow, on the theme of combating hunger and malnutrition.   A special press release from the Ministry of Agriculture reported that Saudi Arabia had constructed a total of 200 dams, distributed uncultivated land free to farmers, provided interest-free agricultural loans worth SR 28 billion (U.S. $ 7.5 billion), and granted assistance totaling SR 10 billion (U.S. $ 2.5 billion), up to the fiscal year 1994.   Branch offices of the Ministry in all provinces are distributing posters, pamphlets and books explaining the Kingdom’s role in agricultural development and in balanced nutrition for its citizens, as well as its participation in international efforts to alleviate poverty, hunger, and sickness all over the world.
