Prince Sultan Bin Abdul Aziz, the Second Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defense and Aviation and Inspector General, presided over the weekly regular session held by the Council of Minister at Al-Yamama Palace in Riyadh.
Following the meeting, Information Minister Ali Bin Hassan Al-Shaer told the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that at the beginning of the session, Prince Sultan briefed the cabinet on the outcome of his recent visit to the United Arab Emirates. He praised the cordial and fraternal spirit that prevailed during discussions on the historical relations between the two brotherly countries. He said the two sides expressed a common desire for promotion of these ties to the highest level and thanked the UAE's leadership and people for the cordial reception and accommodation given to him and members of the accompanying delegation. The Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Hisham Nazer, who accompanied Prince Sultan, presented a detailed report on the talks between Prince Sultan and the UAE's leaders. He said the viewpoints were almost identical on all matters raised during the meetings.
Minister Nazer highlighted the positive and constructive stand shown by President Sheikh Sayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahayan and his wise directives to the officials who took part in the talks.
Minister Al-Shaer said the council afterwards reviewed a number of items on its agenda and clarifications were made by the concerned ministers on all matters that would improve public services for citizens in various sectors in accordance with the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz and Crown Prince Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz, the Deputy Prime Minister and Commander of the National Guard. In this respect, the Minister of Pilgrimage, Dr Mahmoud Safar made the cabinet acquainted with the arrangements being made by the Ministry of Pilgrimage and the intensive efforts underway for this Hajj season with the aim of providing the most comfortable services for pilgrims.
Meanwhile, the Council of Ministers reviewed the latest Arab, Islamic and international developments including the situation of the Bosnian, Palestinian and Afghan arenas. Prince Sultan briefed the ministers on the efforts being made by the Kingdom, under the wise leadership of King Fahd, to deal with political and humanitarian aspects of these issues.
The council approved an agreement on legal protection of foreign guaranteed investments concluded by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the international investment insurance agency as stated in correpondence between the chairman of the agency and the Minister of Finance and National Economy.
The cabinet also endorsed appointments at the 14th grade at the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education.
